Qwen releases Qwen-Image-2.1-Turbo weights: a 7B image model that generates in 8 steps, under a research license
A faster version of Qwen-Image-2.1 that handles both text-to-image and editing in one pipeline, but the license is not Apache 2.0.
// Key points
- It keeps Qwen-Image-2.1’s 7B visual generation architecture and ships its own 8-step denoising schedule, applied automatically on load; setting num_inference_steps alone does not override it.
- Text-to-image and editing share QwenImage21Pipeline, with CFG=1 and bfloat16 by default and an optional use_kv_cache that reuses text and reference-image context across steps; resolution presets run from 2048 × 2048 to 2752 × 1536.
- The license is the Qwen Research License Agreement; it needs Diffusers installed from source and transformers 5.17.0 or later.
Builder's takeEight steps means far faster generation on the same GPU, so a backend like PandaClaws that produces and edits covers in bulk is a good place to test its speed and quality. But it ships under a research license, not Apache 2.0: have someone read the terms before production, and don’t assume downloadable weights mean commercial use is allowed.
