Claude requests and managed agent sessions can now flow into your own observability backend, next to traces from the rest of your stack.

// Key points

  • Messages API requests and Claude Managed Agents sessions can be traced in your observability backend, in beta.
  • The Claude SDK emits spans in Python, TypeScript, C#, Go, Java, PHP and Ruby.
  • To get spans from the API side, add an OpenTelemetry destination in the Claude Console.

Builder's takeI have been wrapping model calls in my own logging; that layer can now move to standard tracing. I’d start by adding an OpenTelemetry destination for document Q&A in the AI Cloud Drive, so one question shows as a single trace from file parsing to the model’s answer and I can see which step is slow; before production I’d check exactly what the spans carry, then decide which backend they go to.
